A new show dedicated to helping spread the music known as the Blues.
You can call it Race Records, Dirty Blues, Jump Blues, Juke Joint Jive or the Devil's Music. It's the music placed on Juke Joint and Honkey Tonk juke boxes during the late 40s and early 50s. This is the true roots of early Rock 'n' Roll. Let the good times roll.
Less talk - more blues The Blues Express - Sonny Boy Williamson
Come on down to the Chicken Shack and listen to Dino's unique Blues Party Mix. . . Continuing to bring you the best blues-based music in the universe. PLEASE EXCUSE THE SEVERAL INTERRUPTIONS IN THE PROGRAM . . . its 2 hours but I had connection problems several times. Thanks for your indulgence.
Continuing to bring you the best blues and blues based music in the universe!
Blues bands and Blues musicians spend a lot of time on the road so it stands to reason that many of the lyrics they write would tell stories of being on the road. They write about WHY they have to hit the road. WHICH road they are heading for, HOW they will travel and everything in between. On this series of shows we'll explore, "On the Road with the Blues."
Continuing the trip through Blues Road & Travelin' Blues songs started on last weeks show. Our goal is to bring you the best blues and blues based music in the universe!
On radio in the '60s a 'Million Dollar weekend' meant the station was going to play hits from the '50s. We do things a little different. We also will be playing hits from that time period ... only we are going to feature cover hits by musicians who do those well know songs just a little differently. Enjoy. Continuing to showcase the best blues and blues based music in the Universe!
Continuing to showcase the best up-beat blues and blues based music in the Universe!
My favorites.
Just some Blues to sit back and have fun with
Ella Shafer from Ohio, is known throughout the Blues community as Miss Ella; Sister to The Blues. Her networking efforts have have helped many emerging and established artists. She's a member of numerous Blues organizations including the Blues Foundation and served as a judge for the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis. the great Lurrie Bell once asked, "Miss Ella how did you find the blues?" She replied " I didn't find the blues. The Blues found me. Enjoy an informal conversation with Yasmin Bowe-Woods and discover some of the best new Blues artist.

Mark Milloff, David Tippett and Alex Lucini are the band Sit Down Baby. Their sound is a new spin on traditional blues. Rather than a bass for the bottom they have a tuba which is reflective of the 20's and 30's. Their visit to the cafe promises to be an authentic experience.

Marshall Lawrence mixes many styles of blues to his music. Henceforth, he is given the nickname "The Doctor of Blues." His music can be described as a fierce, energetic blend of blues, rock, soul, and funk. Together he calls it "acid blues." Another way to describe his technique is a tribute to traditional blues, but mixed with an energetic style. We will talk to Marshall about his journey to this point and his latest release BLUES INTERVENTION. Don Ray is leader of the Don Ray Band out of Nashville, TN. In January 2010, Blues Underground Network awarded their album ON TOP OF THE HEAP “2009 Best USA Blues Album”, “2009 Best Overall Blues Debut Album” and ranked them #2 on the Top 25 Best Worldwide Blues Albums of 2009. In April of 2010, Real Blues Magazine placed their 2009 debut album at the #1 spot on their Top 100 “Must Purchase” Blues chart. Their newest release LONESOME RIDER was released this past August and we will discuss the album and the direction the band is headed.

The Friday Night Blues Hour ~ The Best Of The Blues Featuring Blues Music, by INDIE artists and Antique Phonographs. Kick back, relax, have a drink- and let your Blues drift away. Blues is a music genre that originated in African-American communities of primarily the Deep South of the United States at the end of the 19th century from spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts and chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads.[1] The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll, is characterized by specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues chord progression is the most common. The blue notes that, for expressive purposes are sung or played flattened or gradually bent in relation to the pitch of the major scale, are also an important part of the sound. John Lee Hooker The blues genre is based on the blues form but possesses other characteristics such as specific lyrics, bass lines and instruments. Blues can be subdivided into several subgenres ranging from country to urban blues that were more or less popular during different periods of the 20th century. Best known are the Delta, Piedmont, Jump and Chicago blues styles. World War II marked the transition from acoustic to electric blues and the progressive opening of blues music to a wider audience. In the 1960s and 1970s, a hybrid form called blues-rock evolved. The term "the blues" refers to the "blue devils", meaning melancholy and sadness; an early use of the term in this sense is found in George Colman's one-act farce Blue Devils.
